Bertelsmann: Flexible and integrated audit processes in the Microsoft Cloud 

Together with Bertelsmann, novaCapta has taken its audit management solution to the next level. Even smarter, more efficient, more flexible and 100% integrated into your Microsoft Cloud environment.

The strategic orientation towards the Microsoft Cloud made it clear to novaCapta that the SharePoint on-prem solution novaAudit, which was created in 2007, had to be relaunched. To do this, novaCapta enlisted the expertise of Dr. Christoph Köster, Senior Vice President Corporate Audit at Bertelsmann. Together, they invested in the new solution and developed the cloud-based novaAudit PowerCloud Edition. “It was immediately clear to us that we wanted to be involved in the development. We already had the SharePoint-based novaAudit solution successfully in use. By becoming part of the project team, we not only had the opportunity to co-develop a new modern solution - we also received a tailor-made solution for our audit management,” explains Christoph Köster.

The basis for the further development was the previous version, novaAudit SharePoint, as well as best practices from the experiences of Bertelsmann and novaCapta. The solution was relaunched with the Microsoft Power Platform components in order to map the defined audit processes more efficiently and flexibly. 

The basis for this are the Microsoft cloud services Power Apps and Power Pages, Power Automate for structured workflows, Power BI for reports and Dataverse as an extremely simple and scalable database. The solution itself runs in the customer’s Microsoft infrastructure and thus meets the highest security standards with all the conditions defined by the customer - as is the case at Bertelsmann. Moreover, the cloud solution does not have to be installed on a fixed device - auditors can access it from anywhere at any time.

The access point to the solution is the clearly arranged dashboard. It shows auditors which audits need to be planned, which are currently running and which process steps are pending. The dashboard is adapted to suit the target groups and displays only the information required, thus ensuring great usability and a high level of user-friendliness. The correct specialist requirements for the solution were ensured by Dr. Christoph Köster and his team throughout all development stages.

“We provide our customers with the entire novaAudit resources: the data models, structures and designed interface. This means that they have the whole no-code/low-code solution available and can make adjustments as needed and turn a 5-step audit process into a 6-step one, for example,” explains Michael Matuschek, Sales Director at novaCapta, who has played a key role in the development of novaAudit since 2012.
The core of novaAudit is so flexible that it can be used for various other auditing processes. “At its core, the auditing process is very similar everywhere - regardless of whether it’s a supplier audit, IT or other. They only differ in the details: how many loops are made and what exactly is audited. At the end of the day, there is a defect that is audited and managed,” explains Dr. Christoph Köster.
